safzath:

Community news sharing site Digg has been acquired by Betaworks, Digg CEO Matt Williams announced today in a company blog post. Ordinarily this would be a good thing, especially since the company has been making a serious attempt to sell itself for the last six months or so. However, the Wall Street Journal is reporting […] http://goo.gl/hAqQX

What it’s like pitching to grandmas acting like VCs

safzath:

If you ever thought pitching a VC was hard, maybe you should try giving your talk to a pack of grandmothers that aren’t afraid to ask tough questions. Among the most popular events happening today at Montreal’s International Startup Festival is the “Grandmas” pitch tent, where seven grandmothers quiz startup founders on their businesses. Whether […] http://goo.gl/a7vFa

British Airways Will Google Passengers 'To Put A Face To The Name' → huffingtonpost.com

huffingtonpost:

The airline says its new “Know Me” program involves a thorough Googling of future fliers, so that check-in staff can “put a face to the name before the customer sets foot in the airport,” The Telegraph reports.

Results of the searches will be forwarded to front-line staff equipped with iPads, making for more personal (or creepy) interactions with check-in staff or cabin crew. Some privacy advocates are up in arms about the pre-check-in data mining, but at least one industry-watching site points out that Google searches are likely less invasive that airport security procedures these days.

“We are all alone, born alone, die alone, and in spite of True Romance magazines we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say lonely at least, not all the time but essentially, and finally, alone. This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don’t see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness.” —Hunter S. Thompson, The Proud Highway: Saga of a Desperate Southern Gentleman 1955-67
